The well is located in the North Sea, west of the Fram field, and the distance to the nearest land, Utvær in Solund municipality in Sogn and Fjordane, is 67 km. During drilling of the 81/2 '' reservoir section, an incident occurs which results in a continuous blowout at the seafloor with huge emissions. The oil drifts northwards with the coastal current and is expected to reach the shoreline at Frøya and Froan area. The rig has pulled off the wellhead. No persons are injured. The wellhead was damaged during the incident and capping is not applicable. A temporary hazard area is set up, with a radius of 3 nm from the emission point (61 ° 08'56''N, 003 ° 17'05''Ø).

The CAA establishes a safe flight zone of 10,000 feet above the hazard zone.
